Refuse and Recycling Information


Garbage Carts: Garbage carts are now for sale at the Department of Public Works (press release).  The Village's new refuse truck is capable of picking up garbage carts.  To see a video of the new truck picking up a Village garbage cart click here.  The carts are available in 95 gallon and 65 gallon sizes and are for refuse only, please continue to use blue bins for recyclable materials.  The carts have an attached lid and wheels making it easier to bring garbage to the curb.  The 95 gallon cart is $50 and the 65 gallon cart is $45.  The use of garbage carts is voluntary, carts may be purchased Monday- Friday from 7 am to 3 pm at the Department of Public Works - 6351 Industrial Loop or by mailing in the attached form with your payment. Carts may be picked up at the Department of Public Works.  If you are unable to pick up the cart the Department will deliver them. The carts will be delivered once a week on Fridays, except in cases of holidays or inclement weather.  

If you do not use a Village garbage cart, then the following guidelines apply for refuse containers:
-  No container shall have a capacity of no less than 20 gallons, but no more than 32 gallons.
-  No single container may weigh more than 50 pounds.

Recycle Bins:  If you are need of a new or extra recycle bin they are available at the Department of Public Works or the Village Hall.  The blue bins are $10 each.

Please remember to place your household waste and recyclables at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.  Refuse and recycling routes do not operate per appointed times and can perform collection at any point in the day.  For more information on special pick-ups of yard waste and furniture/appliances please click here

Recycling Information

The Village contracts with Advanced Disposal for recycling collection.  For a copy of the recycling pickup schedule and map click here (note there is an error, the 4th week in May is a blue week).  All items must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m.  For any complaints or questions regarding your recycling pickup please call Advanced Disposal at 262-679-0860.

Refuse/Recycling Center

The Recycling Center is open year-round (except for major Holidays) Monday through Friday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.  From April through November the Recycling Center is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  From December through March the Recycling Center is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.  A valid Wisconsin driver's license will be required to establish proof of Greendale residency.

The Refuse/Recycling Center is now accepting batteries (vehicle and recreational batteries) and appliances containing freon (freezers, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, air conditioners). Please see the Yard Attendant on duty for proper disposal.

Textile Recycling! The Refuse/Recycling Center will accept, and recycle, used (even worn or stained), clothing, shoes, coats, jerseys, undergarments, ties, scarves, suits.  They are no longer accepting bedding, fabric remnants, curtains, curtains/drapes. 

The Refuse/Recycling Center cannot accept tires, medical waste/prescription drugs, hazardous waste, many types of paints and solvents, explosives, propane tanks and items too large to be safely processed. 

If you have prescription drugs to be discarded they can be disposed of safely in a drop box located at the Greendale Safety Center, 5911 W. Grange Avenue.  If you have medical waste to be discarded please call the Health Department at 423-2110 for details and direction.

State law forbids electronic waste from being brought to landfills.  However, residents may bring their e-waste to the Refuse/Recycling Center during regular business hours.  Computers, televisions, printers, and other computer accessories, monitors, DVD players, VCRs, fax machines and cell phones can be recycled at no cost to you.
