Greendale Joins Nationwide Network of Dementia Friendly Communities
Dementia Friendly America was established in 2015 and has since grown to a network of cities, counties, communities and states that is changing the way that people think, talk and act about dementia. We are pleased to announce that Greendale has recently been accepted into this network, designating Greendale as a dementia friendly community.
Greendale has had a work group of volunteers under the auspices of the Greendale Health Department and SAGE (Successful Aging in Greendale) who have focused on dementia since 2019. This group includes people living with dementia, caregivers, health department staff, Board of Health members, passionate citizens, and leaders from the business, nonprofit, and governmental agency sectors. The group is small but has achieved a number of important goals in working towards raising awareness and education on dementia, expanding caregiver support, providing community memory screenings, and becoming certified as a Music and Memory program community.
